Convergence. We have heard of it. We have even talked about it for years. We say we’re going there. Do we really even know where “there” is? By definition it’s “manner of approaching a limit”. Probably not what any of us mean when we refer to where we are going! We at Paragon believe Convergence is actually limitless. It’s certainly a destination – and a long road ahead – but the path that all of our customers must take, and we have to help them get there – because if we don’t – we certainly know they will reach a limit – and that limit is probably the end of their job – or their company altogether! That journey starts with EDUCATION. That is the fundamental piece that’s required before you even take one more step down the technology path. That education starts with this event.
Most people talk about convergence being: One T1 for voice & data service, voicemail/fax/email in one box, needing only one wire run to the phone/computer, using SIP, updating their contact center, using “presence”, merging their telecom department/public safety department and IT departments, one GUI interface, having multiple sites act as one, having remote workers, putting in a SAN, virtualizing their servers, going wireless, migrating to IP Security, improving their service, and cutting costs. That’s just to name a few! The reality is it is all of them – and about 1,000 more things. It’s all the little things that add up to being what it’s really about. Understanding convergence requires you to understand your business, understand the technologies, understand your partners, understand your co-workers abilities and more. In order to do that – you have to be able to step back and take a wide view at it – we are convinced that once you do – the light bulb will come on – and then you can move forward with a clear vision - and at breakneck speeds. Can you afford to do it? You really can’t afford NOT to do it!
